Books of Character for Young Girls

Reading good books has to be one of the greatest pleasures in life. There are many from which to choose but the greatest fulfillment comes from reading a book that not only entertains but one that has life lessons intertwined in it pages. I have always wanted the books that my children read to be those that reinforced the character I tried to instill into them. I found three such books this summer.

Avery Hitch wrote her first book, “Be Ye Thankful” at the age of fifteen. Two more, “Journey to the Cross” (sequel to the first) and “A Penny Parcel” followed in the next couple of years. Anyone with girls aged twelve and above will be blessed by reading how the young people in the books earn valuable, spiritual lessons. I was particularly impressed with, “A Journey to the Cross”. It deals with the issue of how submission to our Heavenly Father begins with submission to an earthly father. Do not let the “Little House on the Prairie” flavor of the books throw you. They have tremendous lessons to convey.

Miss Hitch has her personal testimony on her Web site. (http://www.averyehitch.com/) You will find her books available there. Put these books on your Christmas list for all the young ladies in your life. They would also be a great choice for reading aloud with your family as those long winter evenings approach.
