I read an eye-opening book last month that gave me a new perspective on something I have been guilty of ignoring. Persecuted, divulged the growing intolerance toward Christianity and exposed my passivity concerning those who are being murdered for their beliefs everyday in other countries. Maybe it is that distance that has kept me from whole-heartedly praying for persecuted saints. “It won’t happen here.” But how long will it be until full-fledged persecution is in our country? It is knocking on our backdoor today.
I know that I am not the only one who has allowed himself to dismiss stories of Christian persecution as hype or over-kill. We spoiled Americans cannot fathom that these atrocities could be true. The author, Elwood McQuaid has lots to say about why we feel this way and what can be done to change how we perceive persecution. His book is filled with accounts of the brutal affliction of believers, reasons why American Christians are silent, and steps we as individuals can take to quench this intolerance.
I have asked forgiveness for closing my eyes and ears to this encroaching obstacle to my walk with Christ. Yes, we as Americans are blessed with freedom of religion but we must not forget that we have brothers and sisters in Christ that are not as privileged. This book showed how it affects all of us.
Take the time to find this book and meditate on its message.
